She Makes My Skin Crawl – Shenoa Carroll-Bradd

Shenoa Carroll-Bradd - Horror AuthorToday we have the delightful and witty Shenoa Carroll-Bradd.  You might not think so after reading her latest story titled, She Makes My Skin Crawl, featured in Sekhmet Press Wrapped in Black anthology.

This story totally crawled under my skin and made me think about it for awhile.  Shenoa has an amazing warped sense of style, and her story LIIIIIINGERS with you.  Let’s just say she definitely makes you look at your neighbors and co-workers in a different light.  If your buddy says he has to get home – bloody hell, let the poor bastart go!

If you received the chance to produce this short story into a movie, who would be your dream cast and why?  Please provide me pictures.

Hah, I can’t really see famous faces in this story. They’re meant to be as couple-next-door as possible, as I prefer my horror to have that sheen of “this could be happening right now, on your block”.

Have you considered your main character landing his/her novella or novel one day?

I don’t see/feel the need for my characters to extend beyond this particular story, though the antagonist’s brother has similar powers to her, and will be getting a story of his own, someday.

What should Sekhmet Press produce next? Maybe a Wrapped in Terry Cloth –  Horrors from the Locker Room! What say you – what content topic would also spark your pen?

I could see Wrapped in Brown for mummy stories. People used to make a paint called “mummy brown” from ancient, ground-up corpses. I actually joked that the next anthology should be Wrapped in Strippers, but I think Wrapped in Gold could be cool, for various interpretations of angels. Wrapped in Yellow, for infections and disease, or Wrapped in Rust, [My Favorite] for post-apocalyptic tales. The options are wide open, and I look forward to seeing what Sekhmet Press does next.

What is the “must have” or “must do” before you sit down to write?

I make a To Do list every day, and check it regularly, even if I know I can’t cross anything off, it’s comforting to see what needs to be done. Makes me feel like the day has direction. I think if I tried to write without my list, I would end up too distracted, worrying I was forgetting something. [I run away from my to-lists!]

How do you relax?

I like to crochet and watch Netflix when not writing. Horror movies are my favorite, or binge watching entire TV show runs.

Zombie ToastIf you had a chance to live off the grid – would you do it?

No way! I love the grid. I am not at all the outdoorsy type, and I know that if we got into a Walking Dead kind of situation, I’m pretty much toast.

Silly Question:  Essential oil or Poison – which one would you be and why would you be beneficial or harmful to people?  What form of self-gratification to you receive?

My gut reaction is poison, just because it’s an option. Generally, I’m pretty nice…but yeah. Poison. Some exciting new blend, because I can’t pick a favorite. Strychsenicyantimony. Sounds magical.

V atican Cameos with Sherlock HolmesWhat is your favorite meme?

That, and there’s a series of memes on the facebook page Vatican Cameos where the captions from “Texts From Last Night” are overlaid on Sherlock screencaps. I adore those.

kaijuWhat is your favorite mythological creature?

I really like all of them. I’m a huge monster fan. If you asked ten years ago, I might say unicorn, or Balrog. But today, I’m all about Kaiju!

What is the best killing scene you have ever written?

I think my favorite is probably a man being burned alive while having sex with the Hawaiian goddess Pele. That was fun. I got to play with all the senses there. [Gulp!]

Have you ever killed your boss or a co-worker in a story because you didn’t want to go to jail for actually doing it?

Boss or coworker, no, [Girl – You’re Missing Out!] but I still have a story on file where I tortured and disfigured a romantic rival. It was high school, I had to deal with all that angst somehow

Keep Calm and Never Die!What is your worst FEAR?  How do you handle it?

Mortality. But, every horror story I write/read helps inoculate me against that fear, until it eventually becomes too familiar to be frightening. In theory, anyway.

 Where can we learn more about Shenoa? {I LOVE your name BTW}

I live in Southern California with my awesome brother and dancing dog, and spend most of my time writing whatever catches my fancy, from horror to erotica, and anything in between. My online headquarters are at my website and my facebook author page

But, I’m also occasionally on twitter @ShenoaSays
